Sheriff Of Nottingham Reviews Sheriff of Nottingham VideoSheriff of Nottingham Review!
The game would be no fun if players never wanted to risk anything illegal, but it would be too punishing if it was all or nothing.
It pushes people into participating. The rules of this game are especially well written. Everything is very clearly defined— you know when a deal is binding.
Those restrictions serve to erase confusion and make the goals of the game very clear. Yet they still allow creativity in how you approach your sheriff.
Do you pack a perfect set and then pretend to try and bribe the sheriff? Do you pack your bags full and slip only one or two illegal goods?
Trying to figure out new ways to maximize your points is what keeps the game fresh. While there are many ways to approach the game as a merchant or as the sheriff, there are not infinite ways — and you will most likely use them all in a single game.
In a comparable social game, such as One Night Ultimate Werewolf, replay value comes in the different roles, and that you will only play as 1 role each game.
What about the different mixes of roles and how that changes the game? The components are pretty good — the thick cardboard coin tokens are very nice, and the player boards are laid out cleanly with fun art depicting the snotty, arrogant merchants on them.
More importantly, the cards are easy to read with the goods clearly depicted and the value and penalty numbers are visible from across the table.
The bags are fantastic. Brightly colored and made of felt, they fit your cards perfectly and snap shut cleanly. It adds a lot to the experience of the game to have these beautiful, tactile bags to stuff your goods into.
The coins are separated into types and deep enough so that in general the coins stay in the tray, and the second for the cards is divided into 3 parts so you can have a draw pile and two discard piles.

When the inevitable conclusion to the story came and the Sheriff dies, I was brought to tears, reminding me of my own mortality.
This is a very well researched book that is unfortunately marred by racism and no little amount of misanthropy.
All the characters are 1-dimensional variations on the theme of exploiter or victim, and the entire feudal enterprise - looked upon with the disdain of the ignorant, contemporary critic.
Typical elitist trash with a leftist bent, there isn't anyone who has any redeeming qualities except the lead character, whose fault is that he's so "perfect" it's actually bad, almost fantastically farcical.
Like so many other leftist works, the implication of utopia is discerned by the constant criticism of the past and the present.
That his own utopia is nothing but a horrifying dystopia has been proven by history, undoubtedly ignored. This is sort of the equivalent of a medieval romance novel for social critics.
I pity the town in which the author lives, undoubtedly casting his caustic criticisms upon the unwary.
Verified Purchase. This was my first purchase of a second hand book through Amazon - it arrived exactly when expected, and was pretty much of the quality described.
Certainly brilliant value. The book itself disappointed a little - I expected it to be a little dry from other reviews, but felt that written by a Canadian, it lacked the 'local' feel that someone living in Nottingham might have expected to find.
However, it seems historically accurate, and while not a romping read, matches what I expected. Wouldn't rush to read any other of his books, and not surprised it wasn't popular and available in UK.

This is our Sheriff of Nottingham review. The game mixes many components together unlike any other that makes for a fun package. The game is mainly about when and how you are going to sneak in contraband and you are going to use every trick in your communication and body language repertoire to make that happen.
That is on the surface but under it there is some strategic mathematical thinking and bonuses for set collection efforts.
The game is very fun, but it is a little one-note. Communication games, like this one, are as fun as the conversation amongst the people playing makes it.
You are going to find this, every group is different but you can always bond over themes of lies and truths.
All players can check the cards in both piles at any time they want. At last, the player with the highest value of funds will be the first Sheriff and you should give that player the Sheriff marker.
If there is a draw or no one has any money! The game is carried out over a series of rounds. On each round one player is the Sheriff while the other players are the merchants.
Each round is divided into five phases which is played in order:. This phase, you may get rid of cards and draw new ones to get a set of goods to take them to market.
Here you must declare to the Sheriff what goods you will deliver to the market. Of course, you can lie to him. Obviously, you will have to lie during the game!
Remember, that the player who is the Sheriff only participates in Phase 4, Inspection and Phase 5 End of Round.
He can observe the actions of the other players while they perform their phases. At the end of each round players pass the Sheriff Marker to the left which allows to a new player become the Sheriff.
The game carries until each player has played the Sheriff twice or three times in a three-player game.
At the end of the last round, all players show their cards they have —those cards are not worth any points! The player with the most points is the winner!
If two players have the same points the player who has the most Legal Goods wins.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Sheriff von Nottingham at bandpunkfunk.com Read honest and unbiased product reviews from our users. Sheriff of Nottingham Review | Board Game Halv Sheriff is a great party game for those who want a little more classic strategy in their party games but still want that rousing conversation. Sure it may get a little old after many many games, but those first few are gold. out of 5 stars It's the Sheriff of Nottingham (and Robin Hood) - Again Reviewed in the United States on December 9, The story of Robin Hood of Sherwood Forest and his nemesis the Sheriff of Nottingham, vassal to usurper Prince John is well known and oft-told. Sheriff of Nottingham is a great game for 2 to 5 players. I would say you really need 3 minimum and 4 or 5 would be ideal. Try to move goods across the land while each of you takes a turn being the Sheriff. Do you tell the truth that you are moving 3 wheels of Cheese or do you smuggle a Crossbow in with them and try to earn a few bonus points???.
